Dr. Li Chaoyang is the Professor and Dean of the Department of Transportation Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, PhD supervisor, National Registered Urban Planner, member of the China Transportation Planning Commission, leader of the transportation professional group of the National Virtual Simulation Experiment Innovation Alliance, Shanghai Civil Engineering Society Deputy Chairman of the Road and Transportation Branch, Deputy Chairman of the Traffic Design Committee of the Shanghai Transportation Engineering Society, Chief Expert of the Think Tank of the Ministry of Transportation of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and the 8th Council Member of the Shanghai Land Society. Has been committed to the theoretical research and practical application of people's livelihood and green-oriented transportation planning and management.

Academic monographs "Modern Urban Road Traffic Planning" and "Urban Traffic and Road Planning" are now textbooks for graduate or undergraduate students in many universities, and are reference books for relevant decision-making and technical personnel. He has published more than 100 academic papers, many of which are indexed by various databases.

He has presided over more than 200 projects in urban and rural planning and urban transportation, covering all aspects of urban and rural planning and transportation. The research results have won various scientific and technological progress awards or excellent planning and design awards, including the second prize of provincial scientific and technological progress. Two projects have won second prizes of provincial science and technology progress award and thirteen projects have won the second prizes of provincial excellent urban and rural planning and design.

He served as a consultant expert for government departments in Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shandong, Liaoning and other provinces, as well as researches in Germany, Singapore, the United States, Fudan Architecture and Planning Institute, Rui’an Planning Institute, Wenzhou Planning Institute, Suzhou Municipal Institute.
